    National Parks Service Oregon Trail - Pappan's Ferry Design Charette

    The National Park Service has identified the Pappan’s Ferry crossing on the Oregon Trail in Topeka as a significant site and will be sending their landscape architectural team to Topeka for the entire week of August 22 – 26 to provide historical interpretation through a design charrette.           Heartland Visioning listened to the community, see what the 450 surveys showed

    In 2015 Heartland Visioning dedicated its efforts toward verifying the community priorities and educating the public about the successful changes in our community since 2008. We surveyed 450 participants from different public presentations. We found changes in positive perception, areas of pride and continued opportunities for future impact. Check out the results!

    Jayhawk Theatre Making a Comeback

    Jeff Carson has taken the lead on preparing the Jayhawk Theatre for a comeback in the Topeka community. This 900 seat historic theatre and its many supporters are working hard to build a state of the art movie theatre. With new renovations happening to downtown, the Jayhawk is sure to draw attention.

    Community Helped Develop 2014-2016 Priorities 

    In 2013 Heartland Visioning held 21 community meetings all around Topeka and Shawnee County. Building off our massive community meetings five years earlier (read the 2008 strategic plan here) Heartland Visioning used the comments and feedback provided by citizens of Topeka and Shawnee County to help develop our 2014-2016 priorities.

    Did you know development of NOTO came directly out of our Steering Committee?

    During the 2008 community meetings, our citizens expressed a desire for the development of an arts district. This idea was included in our 2008 Strategic Plan and our Steering Committee Volunteers formed NOTO, vibrant arts district in North Topeka.
